AI intake chat

AI intake chat for Oregon law firm websites

Add an AI assistant to the site you already have. It greets every visitor, takes intake the way your firm would, collects conflict details first and books the consultation on your calendar, day or night.

What the chat does

Many people look for a lawyer in the evening, after work or right after something goes wrong. If your website only offers a contact form, many of them move on to the next firm. The TacticalMS chat answers them on the spot.

  1. Says it's an AI. The first message tells the visitor they're talking with the firm's AI assistant and that it can't give legal advice.
  2. Checks conflicts first. It asks for names and opposing parties before the visitor shares the details of their matter.
  3. Asks your intake questions. Practice area, what happened, when, where and how to reach them, using the questions you approve.
  4. Books the consult. It offers open times from your Google or Outlook calendar, or flags urgent matters, like an arrest, to the attorney on call.
  5. Sends you the lead. A summary and the full transcript land in your inbox, or in Clio Grow, Lawmatics or MyCase via Zapier, marked "conflict check pending."

Try it yourself on our demo firm site: tell the assistant you were just rear-ended and see what it asks.

How to add an AI chatbot to your website

The chat is one short snippet of code. You don't need a new website.

Most firms are live in 5 to 10 business days. Most of that time is you reviewing and approving the greeting, disclaimers and questions.

Built for lawyers, not for retail

A generic website chatbot is built to sell shoes. Law firms have duties that a store doesn't: confidentiality, conflicts, no legal advice and no accidental attorney-client relationships. The assistant is set up around those rules from the start.

Will never

  • Give legal advice or estimate what a case is worth
  • Say or imply your firm represents the person
  • Promise results, fees or timelines you haven't approved
  • Pretend to be a person
  • Ask for Social Security numbers, bank details or medical records

Always

  • Discloses that it's an AI in the first message
  • Collects conflict details before case facts
  • Offers a callback from a person on request
  • Sends you every transcript
  • Runs only on scripts you approved

Oregon's bar addressed exactly this in February 2026. Read our plain-English guide to OSB Formal Opinion 2026-208 to see what it asks of firms that use chatbots.

What a conversation looks like

A shortened example from our fictional demo firm. Your firm approves every line the assistant can say.

Assistant: Hi, I'm Willamette Injury Law's AI assistant. I can't give legal advice, but I can collect your details and book a free consultation with an attorney. What can we help with?

Visitor: I got rear-ended on I-84 last night. Is my case worth anything?

Assistant: I'm sorry that happened. I can't say what a case is worth, but an attorney can talk that through with you. First, so the firm can check for conflicts: what's your full name, and do you know the other driver's name?

Visitor: Sam Rivera. The other driver was Jordan Lee.

Assistant: Thank you. Did you get medical care, and in which county did the crash happen? Then I'll show you open consultation times.

The firm gets the summary and full transcript right away, marked "conflict check pending."

Which Oregon firms it fits

The assistant follows a separate approved question set for each practice area:

Live chat service vs. AI chat

Live chat services staff your website with human operators, usually billed per lead or per chat. An AI assistant answers instantly at any hour with no per-chat fee, follows your script word for word every time and never gets tired at 2 AM. The trade-off is that it won't improvise, which for legal intake is the point. Anyone who'd rather talk to a person can leave their number for a callback.

Pricing

Tactical Intake is $997 a month plus a $500 setup fee, month to month, and covers both the website chat and after-hours call answering. The first two Portland firms get $797 a month locked for a year with no setup fee. See full pricing.

Common questions

Will the chat work on our current website?

Yes. It's one snippet of code that works on WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and most other sites. If an agency runs your site, we send them the snippet and instructions.

Will visitors know it's an AI?

Yes. It says so in its first message, as Oregon's ethics guidance expects. Anyone who prefers a person can leave their name and number for a callback.

Does it work with Clio?

Yes, through Zapier. Leads can go to Clio Grow, Lawmatics or MyCase that way, or to your email, and consults book on Google or Outlook calendars.

Is our intake data used to train AI?

No. Your transcripts and leads belong to your firm, are never used to train AI models, and are returned and deleted if you leave. The details are in our Data Processing Addendum.

What does an AI chatbot for a law firm cost?

Tactical Intake is $997 a month plus a $500 setup fee, month to month, and includes both the website chat and after-hours call answering. The first two Portland firms get $797 a month with no setup fee.

How long does it take to set up?

Most firms are live in 5 to 10 business days. Most of that time is the firm reviewing and approving the greeting, disclaimers and intake questions.

Can it handle more than one practice area?

Yes. It asks what the visitor needs help with first, then follows the question set you approved for that practice area. Matters you don't handle get a polite referral message.
